About West Newbury
The Town of West Newbury was first settled in 1635 as part of Newbury, in 1819 it separated and in 1820 was named the town of West Newbury. West Newbury maintains a small population of roughly 4,000 residents.
West Newbury borders the Merrimack River and the Artichoke River, along with the Indian River running through town. Well known for its scenic beauty, the town includes rolling hills and open fields with trails – many of which are used for recreational hiking, cross country skiing and horse back riding. Additional recreational activities include apple picking at Long Hill Farm, strawberry picking at Maple Crest Farm, and the summer concert series at the Town Gazebo. In the winter, ice skate on Mill Pond or cut down your own Christmas Tree at one of many farms in town!
