About Merrimac
Merrimac was settled in 1638 and became incorporated as the Town of Merrimac in 1876. Merrimac borders New Hampshire, Haverhill, MA, Amesbury, MA and the Merrimack River, which crosses over to West Newbury, MA. Historically known for agriculture and fishing, today Merrimac still retains its rural qualities and small town community charm.
Boating, fishing, and recreational activities are popular from Lake Attitash’s Indian Head Park. Area hiking includes the Town Forest, – Cobbler’s Brook, the Jay McLaren Memorial Trail, and Marshview Trail to name a few.
